Types of Water Damage

The extent of the cleanup necessary after a water damage is dictated by the level of contamination of the water. Clean, uncontaminated water from a broken water line may only require extraction and drying, while contaminated water sources from flooding or a sewage backup will require additional steps for cleaning and disinfecting. We follow established industry standards when determining the level of contamination and the procedures for cleanup, so you can rest assured that your property will be restored properly and thoroughly.

How Water Damage Affects Your Property

Water typically spreads out and flows through the path of least resistance, especially toward substructures and lower floors. Porous materials, wood, sheetrock and other building materials will soak up the water, which can even travel upwards as it is absorbed by porous materials. The resulting effects can include discoloration, swelling, broken adhesive bonds, de-lamination (flooring separation), warping and overall breakdown of building materials that make up your home or business. The more time that elapses before treatment, the greater the damage. Even if the water evaporates unassisted, it can cause damage to ceilings, walls and contents.

Mold issues and secondary damage to cabinets, drywall, insulation and other structural materials and contents can occur if the problem isn’t taken care of right away. Mold growth can begin in as little as 24 hours after a water damage emergency, so it’s important to call a qualified water damage company as soon as possible to mitigate the damage.

Our Water Damage Restoration Process

Water Cleanup/Extraction

When a property is affected by water damage, the first step is to extract any standing water and any water that has been absorbed by carpets, flooring, walls and insulation. In some situations, carpeting and other materials may be able to be dried in-place, or if the water has been contaminated, carpeting, insulation and other materials will need to be replaced.

Structural Drying

Wood and sheetrock will absorb water and will require proper drying to prevent damage and mold growth. We utilize advanced structural drying techniques to quickly and effectively dry the structure, avoiding warping or bowing. High velocity air movers and dehumidifiers are also utilized to help dry the structure. Our experienced technicians will monitor the temperature, humidity, and equipment throughout the drying process to ensure the structure is dried correctly.
